The South Poll
The South Poll is a breed of cattle uniquely suited to growing quality beef on grass only and to be able to withstand the summer heat and humidity of the Southeast.
While other breeds of cattle are hiding in the trees, the South Polls are still at it grazing in the fields!
This is a medium framed, tough breed of cattle.
The very best of four breeds (Red Angus, Herford, Barzona, & Senepol) were brought together in the 1980s to create the composite breed of medium sized red cattle now known as the South Poll breed.
We are pleased with their performance on our farm and plan to continue with this unique, productive breed, as feedback from our customers has been extremely positive regarding flavor and tenderness from these tough little steers.
The Dutch Belt
These unique cattle originated in the Netherlands.
They are an old heritage breed of cattle known for giving sweet milk with a reputation of being “the world’s most ideal drinking milk”.
The fat globules in their milk are closer to goat’s milk (smaller and more well distributed throughout the milk), but without the goaty taste!
They give a moderate amount of high quality milk vs. large amounts of lower quality milk.
We enjoy having this breed, not only for their unique, sweet milk, but also because, as a Heritage breed, we are doing our small part in participating in the preservation of these unique cows.
